Marco Maricevich was born in Washington, DC while his grandfather was serving as a diplomat to the Organization of American States (OAS). His early childhood was spent living in Asuncion, Paraguay, and at age 6 Marco moved to northeastern Brazil. He received his Medical Degree from the Universidade Federal de Pernambuco. After completion of Medical School, Marco pursued a postdoctoral research fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School. He was at the Center for Molecular Imaging Research (CMIR) where he participated in basic science research aimed at developing technolgies to elucidate molecular mechanisms in cancer, atherosclerosis, and inflammation. Subsequently, Marco completed his General Surgery training at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. While at the Mayo Clinic, he held an academic appointment as an Instructor in Surgery. He is board certified surgeon by the American Board of Surgery (ABS). In July 2013, Marco enrolled into the independent Plastic Surgery residency program at the University of Pittsburgh. Marco's next step is to complete a reconstructive microsurgery fellowship at the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX.

Dr. Maricevich has been lead or contributing author on over 45 published scientific manuscripts, book chapters, guidelines, and abstracts. Furthermore, he has given scientific research presentations at numerous local, regional, national and international conferences.
