Devra Becker, MD

Associate Professor of Plastic Surgery

Dr. Devra Becker is currently an Associate Professor in the University of Pittsburgh Department of Plastic Surgery (DOPS). She completed her undergraduate studies at Brandeis University where she was elected to Phi Beta Kappa in her junior year and graduated summa cum laude with departmental honors in Linguistics and Cognitive Science. She then earned her medical degree from Washington University in St. Louis, and completed her Plastic Surgery training at Washington University School of Medicine/Barnes Jewish Hospital. She completed fellowships in craniofacial surgery and facial surgery in Paris, France, and in Cleveland, Ohio.

Dr. Becker focuses on reconstructive surgery, and performs the breadth of plastic surgery from complex multidisciplinary reconstruction, body surgery, elective and traumatic hand surgery, wound care, and facial surgery. She has achieved a national reputation for her work, and is a frequent invited contributor to national meetings. She has published peer-reviewed articles in ethics and outcomes, and has written many invited book chapters. In addition, she contributes to online learning modules, and helps to set the national Plastic Surgery educational curriculum through her leadership on the American Society of Plastic Surgeons In-service Committee, where she is the upcoming subcommittee Chair. She performs research in ethics, outcomes, and surgical quality and has received awards for her work in surgical education. She is a reviewer for several Plastic Surgery journals.

She is a diplomat of the American Board of Plastic Surgery, and is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the American Society of Maxillofacial Surgery, the American Council of Academic Plastic Surgeons (ACAPS). She was awarded Fellowship in the American College of Surgeons, a status that she has maintained. She has received many awards, including being named a “Top Doc” for the past six years, being chosen for the prestigious UHLA Leadership Academy, being chosen for the interprofessional Scholars Collaboration in teaching and learning, and receiving the AAMC LHS Learner Award and two Scholarship in teaching awards.
