Alexa Rivera del Río Hernández graduated from Universidad Panamericana Escuela de Medicina in August 2023. Following graduation, she joined a team of plastic surgeons in Mexico City focused on aesthetic and reconstructive plastic surgery, participating in both surgeries and research paper writing. Alexa is a Research Fellow in the Department of Plastic Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center under the mentorship of Dr. Asim Ejaz. Her research is focused on soft tissue engineering to improve wound healing, flap perfusion and fibrosis post-radiation treatment.
Alexa plans to get involved in innovative therapeutic approaches that will improve patients' outcomes and quality of life. She wants to identify pathways to open doors for Latino students underrepresented in medicine who want to pursue a career in medicine, especially Plastic Surgery.
Alexa speaks four languages (Spanish, English, French, German) and has been a dancer for more than 10 years. Alexa enjoys spending time with her family, friends, and dog, and also exploring new cafes in the city.
