Asim Ejaz, PhD, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Plastic Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Ejaz earned his PhD from the Medical University Innsbruck, Austria in 2012 from the Department of Virology and completed a dissertation on “The Role of Complement Opsonization for Retrovirus-Specific T Cell-Activation Mediated by Dendritic Cells and its Translation into Dendritic Cells Targeting Based Vaccine Development”. From 2013-2017, Dr. Ejaz has worked as a Universität Assistant at Institute for Biomedical Aging Research, University of Innsbruck, Austria. During this time he investigated the effects of weight loss interventions on biology of adipose-derived stem cells.
Dr. Ejaz’s research focuses on soft tissue engineering to improve post-oncologic patient care and effects of aging on adipose tissue biology. His ongoing projects include use of adipose tissue products to treat radiation induced fibrosis and elucidating mechanisms involved in mitigation. Furthermore, he is investigating the link between adipose tissue aging to age related insulin resistance.
Dr. Ejaz is Director of the Skin Wound Healing and Tissue Regeneration Lab.
