Dr. Bengur earned his MD degree from Acibadem University School of Medicine in Istanbul, Turkey with a distinguished award that is given to only one graduate each year for their professionalism and clinical competency. Exploring his passion on restoring function for his patients and innovation, he met plastic surgery early during medical school and worked on numerous outcomes studies on reconstructive surgery. To further pursue his research interests following graduation, Dr. Bengur started his postdoctoral research fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh Department of Plastic Surgery. During this time, his research was focused on the intersection of reconstructive surgery and tissue engineering to improve outcomes following reconstruction of complex soft tissue defects and peripheral nerve repair. He was awarded numerous honors during his research fellowship including the prestigious “Plastic Surgery Foundation (PSF) Research Fellowship” grant under the mentorship of Dr. Mario Solari to develop tissue engineered free flap scaffolds. Dr. Bengur began his surgical training as an integrated resident in Pitt Plastic Surgery in 2023 to continue his journey as a surgeon-scientist.
Dr. Bengur published over 40 peer-reviewed papers in prestigious journals and has more than 100 oral and poster presentations at local, regional, national, and international meetings. He is also a peer-reviewer for numerous journals including Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Neural Regeneration Research, Scientific Reports, Annals of Plastic Surgery and many more.
