J. Reed McGraw, MD

Dr. McGraw grew up in Columbus, Ohio. He graduated summa cum laude from The Ohio State University with a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering degree and was first in his class within the Department of Biomedical Engineering. He was also a member of the varsity swim team at Ohio State, competing primarily in the 400-individual medley and the 200-breaststroke. He was a four-year varsity letterwinner and was recognized as a three-time Big Ten Distinguished Scholar and an NCAA Division I Academic All-American. Dr. McGraw obtained his medical degree from the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. While at Penn, he was highly involved in medical education and clinical research. From 2022-2023, he completed the Herndon B. Lehr, MD Microsurgery Research Fellowship under the mentorship of Dr. Stephen Kovach, where he obtained over $20,000 in grant funding, performed research in functional extremity reconstruction, lymphatic microsurgery, and surgical education, and was awarded the John Pryor, MD Prize for Trauma Research. Upon graduation from Penn, he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. Dr. McGraw began his training as an integrated Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery resident at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center in July 2024. In his free time, Reed enjoys triathlon training, playing guitar, slalom waterskiing, watching Ohio State football, and spending time with his wife.

Representative Publications

Dr. McGraw has published peer-reviewed manuscripts, textbook chapters, and abstracts on various topics in plastic and reconstructive surgery, including functional extremity reconstruction, lymphatic microsurgery, abdominal wall reconstruction, head and neck reconstruction, vascularized composite allotransplantation, and surgical education. He has presented his work at regional, national, and international meetings, including the American Association of Plastic Surgeons, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, and the American Society of Reconstructive Microsurgery.
