Liliana Camison, M.D., is an Assistant Professor of Plastic Surgery and Director of Facial Reconstruction in the Division of Pediatric Plastic Surgery. Dr. Camison earned her medical degree from Universidad CES in her home city of Medellin, Colombia. Following a research fellowship in the Craniofacial and Adipose Stem Cell Laboratories of the Department of Plastic Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh, she completed the Integrated Plastic Surgery Residency at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. She then pursued subspecialty training, completing the ACGME-accredited Craniofacial Surgery Fellowship at NYU Langone Medical Center, in New York City.

Dr. Camison’s scope of practice includes the full spectrum of pediatric plastic surgery, as well as craniofacial surgery in both children and adults. Her main passion is facial reconstruction, caring for patients with facial differences that arise from congenital conditions or acquired causes—like trauma or cancer. Her clinical interests include cleft lip and palate, orthognathic surgery, complex nasal reconstruction, ear reconstruction (including microtia), facial asymmetry, post-traumatic or post-oncologic reconstruction, and other secondary facial surgery.

Dr. Camison’s current research endeavors center around developing more accurate and efficient techniques for ear and nose reconstruction. In partnership with top researchers at Carnegie Mellon University, her team is developing a machine to 3D-engineer cartilage implants, for which they hold a patent. This project has earned multiple awards, including the first place of the Pitt Innovation Challenge (PInCh) in 2020, with 100,000 in grant funding. Dr. Camison has over 20 peer-reviewed publications, more than 50 presentations at regional, national and international meetings.
