Nerone Douglas, MSc

Nerone Douglas was originally born in St. Lucia in the small town of Tapion where he spent his childhood years before immigrating with his family to New York City. He earned a Bachelor of Science from Stony Brook University in Biochemistry, with a Minor in Chemistry. He then went on to earn his Master of Science in Biomedical Sciences from the University of Pittsburgh with his thesis focusing on Drug Repurposing and Novel Targeted Therapies for the treatment of Metastatic Osteosarcoma. Nerone is an MD degree candidate at the University of Pittsburgh and is currently a clinical research fellow in the Department of Plastic Surgery under the direct mentorship of Dr. Peter Rubin and Dr. Carolyn De La Cruz. Nerone’s clinical interests lie in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and Global Plastic Surgery. He also has many research interest within Plastic surgery centered around lymphedema, adipose stem cells, closing the representation gap by establishing pathways to support students underrepresented in medicine in their pursuit of careers in medicine and surgery, quality of care improvements, and health disparities in surgery, especially for medically underserved communities domestically and abroad. During his time in the Bronx and as a PittMed Social Medicine Fellow, Nerone has remained consistently involved and close-knit with his communities and is passionate about mentorship and wanting to play an integral role for students and community members to feel educated, empowered and charged to invest in themselves, their health, and their futures.
